Site help

Why are links different colors when I mouse over them?

Links to other sites turn blue when moused over. Downloads and email links look like  this . Some browsers don't show link backgrounds.

Searching the site

Regular Search searches everything except our searchable photo gallery. Gallery Search searches only Gallery captions and picture keywords. We would rather have one Search for everything, but are limited by our current software.

Printer-friendly pages

For best results, print our printer-friendly pages. Look for a link "printer version" at the top right of the page.

We designed our printer-friendly pages to be as readable as possible when printed out. You can change the printed text size in some browsers by changing the text size in the display. Try View > Text Size (or Text Zoom). On IE for Mac, command + increases text size, command - decreases it.

Explorer also lets you change text size in File > Print preview. Print preview lets you preview page breaks. You can change text size to keep a picture from splitting across two pages when printed.

Some people find printer pages easier to read online. Try it for this page (opens new window).

Change site appearance

Change text size temporarily, or on one page:
View > Text Size (or Text Zoom) in most browsers. In some browsers, command + increases text size, and command - decreases it. iCab has buttons in its navigation bar.
Change text size permanently, on most web pages:
Preferences (or Settings) > Fonts in most browsers.
Change text size on a printer-friendly page
Change font (have you tried Georgia or Verdana?):
Tools > Options > Fonts in Internet Explorer, Preferences (or Settings) > Fonts in most browsers.
Change page colors:
If the box at right is pink, your monitor is set to 256 colors and a lot of the Web looks ugly. Increase colors: Windows 95/98: Settings > Control Panel > Display. Macintosh: System Folder > Control Panels > Monitors.

Display problems

Paragraphs don't have spaces between them
This is a problem in early versions of Netscape 4. Try a newer version of Netscape (4.8 works on older machines), or a browser with better display support. Wilma likes Opera (Windows, Macintosh, Linux, etc.), Safari (Macintosh), and iCab (Mac). Opera and iCab are small, fast, have great features, and use less memory and disk space than newer versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape. All avoid the security problems of Explorer.
Pictures on some pages display incorrectly:
We are fixing these, but we haven't got them all yet. Please report problems here.

On pages of small photos, click a picture to see a larger version. Click the < and > arrows to see the next or previous large picture. Click |< to see the first large picture, >| to see the last. To go back to the Gallery main page, click the upward-pointing triangle next to "Gallery" in the upper right corner.
